Fall Colors – Grand Teton NP, WY

Early Morning, Ox Bow Lake – Grand Teton NP, WY

The Fall season is a special time of year and a wonderful time to get out and see nature in all its glory!  Early October, last year, I attended an outdoor-related conference in Grand Teton NP, WY.  I was hoping to get an opportunity to see a few leaves changing so I came prepared with all the photo gear.  The Teton Range along the border of Wyoming and Idaho comes to life early in the morning as the eastern sunrise lights up the majestic peaks.  With calm winds and the wide range of fall colors, it’s breathtaking!

One of the great things about Grand Teton NP is that so much beautiful scenery can be accessed by everyone that makes the trek to see the park.  The photos above were taken from Ox Bow Lake, a roadside pullout along the highway.  The only requirement to see these incredible sunrises is to simply hop out of bed!  From this same location, it is not uncommon to see wildlife.

While this view is spectacular, it only scratches the surface of what this part of the country has to offer.  Grand Teton NP is a little off the beaten path but well worth the journey.  The neighboring town of Jackson retains the charm of the wild west with all the modern conveniences including air service into the area from several major air carriers.  I happen to love the drive to the Jackson Hole area with so much amazing countryside to see from whichever direction you arrive, including neighboring Yellowstone NP.

There are numerous camping and lodging opportunities in the area but planning ahead is absolutely essential because places fill up routinely, particularly in peak times.  Several campgrounds are first come – first served.  Without reservations, I usually plan to arrive early in the day and set up camp before running out to play.

Very simply, this place rocks!  One of my all-time favorite travel destinations…any time of the year!
